I was scheduled to work at daycare from 7:30 – 4:30 today. I also had some errands to run afterwards, so knew if I was going to run, I would have to do it during my break. I thought it would be cool enough that I wouldn’t sweat much. WRONG. It was sunny and 61°F (16.1°C). Really nice weather for the run, but I did sweat. I didn’t have enough time to change shirts afterwards, as I had planned, so the kids just had to deal with it. I don’t even think they noticed since my shirt was dry by the time they got up from their nap. One little boy did notice that I had changed shirts from this morning.
The schedule called for a Fast Finish Run – 5 minutes Zone 1, 20 minutes Zone 2, and 5 minutes in zone 3. I ran by feel today. My HR was way over these goals, but the run felt good and I was really glad to get it done during the day. This may be my go-to when the weather is nice. Stats: Walked 1.0 mile total for warm up and cool down in a total of 14:35 minutes for an average pace of 4.1 mph. Ran 2.5 miles in 30:47 minutes for an average pace of 12:19 min/mile (4.9 mph). Elevation gained was only 204 feet. This is the flattest spot I know of for a run in the town, except for a school track. The splits were 12:24 min, 12:54 min, and 10:58 min. I was pleased with that considering I only ran four times in the last four weeks. For 88% of the run, my HR was in Zones 3 and 4 – between 153 bpm and 166 bpm. I think this was just one of those days when my HR seems to be artificially high for some reason. Even during the warm up walk it averaged 142 bpm.
Cute thing that happened at daycare today. One of the mom’s if the youth pastor at the church attached to the daycare (my church). I went up there to get water out of their kitchen and she was there eating her lunch. She asked me if I had heard what her 2 year old son said when she brought him in this morning. No, I hadn’t. When he saw me he told her excitedly, “Ms Micky is here. I love Ms Mickey.” Melts my heart. BTW, my name is Vicky. The “V” is a hard sound for them to get, so my name is pronounced so many cute ways by the kids. Those are the things that keep me going on hard days at daycare.
